Molok® containers are accessible to people of all ages and abilities, and their low-profile appearance makes a great fit in practically any location.
Many traditional waste containers, primarily dumpsters and carts, are outright inaccessible to portions of the population and difficult to use for others.
For example, the top of a dumpster is too high for children, shorter adults, and people using a mobility device like a wheelchair or motorized scooter to reach. Add in a lid that has to be propped or held open, and the problem of waste disposal becomes even larger. Carts suffer from this issue, too as they’re also typically too tall for a seated person to use.
The reason the user opening is so high off the ground is mainly a biproduct of the basic design of these containers: because they sit on the surface, the only way to have a large enough container for practical use (i.e., high volume with a limited surface footprint) is to make them fairly tall. Another side effect (among many others) of this approach is that the containers are bulky, which makes them stand out for the wrong reasons.
But Molok® containers are fundamentally different.
Accessible to practically everyone
The Molok® Deep Collection™ system uses a semi-underground design to provide high-capacity waste containment in a comparatively small surface footprint. Pioneered by Molok® more than 30 years ago, this approach offers the benefit that the user opening is at an accessible height without sacrificing storage.
And to increase accessibility, the small door that covers the user opening on our standard lid is easy to open — and there’s also a hands-free option.
The result is a waste management solution that’s accessible to people of all ages and abilities — something we’re very proud of.
But increased accessibility isn’t the only benefit of our innovative semi-underground design…
A great fit practically anywhere
While a Molok® container extends up to 1.5m (a little less than 5 feet) below the surface, the portion visible above ground has a very low, rounded profile that seamlessly integrates into practically any environment — from urban cores to parks and other outdoor spaces (see pics, below) — and that conforms to the principles of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (a multi-disciplinary approach of crime prevention that uses urban and architectural design and the management of built and natural environments).
In fact, we’ll go as far as to say that Molok® containers are downright cute — a far cry from the bulky alternatives. For what it’s worth, Molok® containers are also cleaner, more durable, and more cost effective than other options, so it’s not like accessibility and appearance are only available with massive trade-offs.
Add in a plethora of customization options, and waste management has never looked better.

These units look like they could have just grown out of the ground (there’s a reason we like to say that Molok® units get “planted”!)
Blue user lids at this Molok® waste station make it easy to separate recyclables from garbage.
Three Molok® units are just steps from a busy patio, which is possible because the containers effectively control odors.
