Hi everyone,
A quick blog today, one that dives into explaining our Made in Canada designation.
For those of you who might not be familiar with the legal definition (from the Competition Bureau) to use this term, products must have:
- the last substantial transformation of the product must occur in Canada;
- at least 51% of the total direct costs of making the product were incurred in Canada
For a product to qualify to be called Product of Canada this number needs to rise to 98%.
We’re towards the top end of these two goal posts – 89% of the direct costs for a standard M-5000 container.
And come very close with our M-Grease and M-Organics containers at 97%.
Let’s take you through it.
We purchase the following materials in Canada:
- Main product materials such as the raw polymer and our aesthetic composite framing is supplied by Canadian companies.
- Our aluminum lifting system components are Canadian material. We do some of the forming in our state of the art metal shop, the rest is sourced to a local Canadian shop.
- Our main lid is thermoformed locally in Ontario.
We purchase a few materials from European countries:
- The lifting bag, small user doors and the anchoring feet are from Europe.
Production & Labour: Ontario, Canada
Our products are manufactured in our facility in Mount Forest Ontario by full-time employees.
These numbers represent direct manufacturing costs. In addition, our company overhead is also all Canadian.
And as we all know, quality matters! Our products are better designed, and built to last – here’s a recent blog post that compares the strengths of Molok’s semi-underground containers with competitors.
Best,
